FORT MYERS, Fla. – The first league trophies of the year will be handed out this Saturday morning as the FGCU men's and women's cross country teams take part in the ASUN Championships at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama.

The 5K women's race is slated for a 8:00 AM central start, while the men's 8K race will begin at approximately 8:45 AM central. Live results will be available through live.xpressing.com and admission will not be charged for the Championship.

Last season, the women's program finished 12th overall with Karley Piers (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) finishing 45th. Piers led the Eagles with a time of 18 minutes, 42.6 seconds which was the fourth fastest 5K time for a FGCU freshman in program history.
On the men's side, FGCU placed fifth overall and was led by Osman Humeida (South Riding, Va./Freedom HS/Virginia Tech) who was 13th individually and earned all-conference second-team honors and set a new men's cross country program record in the 8K

This year, Humeida has dominated for the Eagles winning the UCF Invite and FSU Invitational alongside an 11th place finish at the North Alabama Showcase that resulted in a new FGCU 8K record with a time of  24:01.60.

Bus Baker (Richmond, Va./Appomattox Regional Governor's School Radford/Louisville) produced a time of (24:40.40) also at the North Alabama Showcase to move to the third-best Eagle time in the 8K.
Another key returning member to the championships is Austin Redondo (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef Senior HS) who earned all-conference honors finishing 13th, respectively, at the 2019 championship event. The men's team is coming off a first-place team finish at the USF Invite on Oct.15 which then led to the Eagles earning a spot on the USTFCCCA South Regional Coaches Rankings poll.
On the women's side, Karley Piers has led FGCU in all three races with her highlight performance coming at the USF Invitational where she won in a time of 18.34.6 .The Eagles' top finish at the championship event was also third in 2014 and 2015. Kelly Perzanowski won the event as an individual in 2013 and holds FGCU's fastest time at 17 minutes, 21.01 seconds.
