Box Score ATLANTA - FGCU Women's Tennis wrapped up competition at the ITA Southeast Regional on Saturday.
Emma Bardet highlighted the four Eagles who made appearances in the Peach State. Bardet (France) won her opening singles main-draw match to advance to the Round of 32 on Friday. She scored a straight-set victory over Mary Weston Courville from Mercer, winning 6-2, 6-4.
However, the senior would drop her following match against a 12th-seeded Power Five opponent out of Georgia. Lopata Anastasiia defeated Bardet 7-5, 6-2 and advanced all the way to the main-draw quarterfinal round.
Fanny Norin (Sweden) also suited up for the Green and Blue in the main draw singles. Norin was defeated in her opening match on Thursday, but picked up a consolation victory in straight sets against in-state foe Millie-Mae Matthews (FAU) 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the consolation Round of 16.
In consolation, Norin moved to face Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Alejandra Cruz on Saturday. The Yellow Jacket bested Norin 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to eliminate the junior's appearance in Atlanta. Cruz won her following match after Norin and has advanced to the consolation semifinal round on Sunday.
In main-draw doubles action, the Bardet and Ida Ferding (Sweden) Eagle duo suffered a opening-round 8-4 loss to a sixth-seeded Florida Gators pair, Rachel Gailis and Bente Spee. Gailis and Spee advanced to the quarterfinals before being upended by the event's No. 1 overall doubles pair.
Both Jordana Ossa and Ferding represented the Eagles in the qualifying singles draw. Ferding battled Cliona Walsh from USF, while Ossa (Miami, Fla.) took on Carla Galmiche out of FAU. Both Eagles dropped their respective Round of 32 matches on Thursday and were eliminated from qualifying draw contention.
In qualifying doubles, Ossa and Norin teamed up for FGCU and faced Cade Cricchio and Olympe Lancelot from Florida State, making the Seminole duo earn an 8-6 victory.
FGCU will be back in action on Nov. 11-13 as tournament hosts of the Bonita Bay Classic from Bonita Springs, Florida, at the Bonita Bay Club.
