FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swim and dive team returns to the pool this weekend as they travel to FIU to take on the Panthers on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
The Eagles look to bounce back after facing tough competition in Miami last week. A few individuals did stick out as senior
Petra Halmai (Dombovar, Hungary/Lanczos Kornel Secondari Grammar School) and junior
Delaney Nelson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) took home CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors.
Halmai earned the honor for the ninth time in her career after winning the 200 fly, 200 breast, and 400 IM, while also having the fastest breaststroke split in the 200 medley relay.
After swimming 29.15 in the breaststroke as part of the medley relay, Halmai swam a season-best in the 200 fly with a time of 2:04.40, which is also now the fourth fastest in the conference. She then continued her dominance in both the 200 breast (2:18.97) and the 400 IM (4:30.81), winning both those races by more than three seconds.
Nelson earned the honor for the second time in her career after winning it once as a freshman in 2020. Against Miami, she posted some of her best scores of the season, going up against three of top divers in the NCAA.
She scored 239.18 in the 1-meter while putting up a score of 222.53 in the 3-meter. Both of those scores are season-bests in dual meets this season.
This is the second time this season the Eagles and Panthers will meet in the pool after FIU topped the Green and Blue on November 5 where Halmai, senior
Wiktoria Czarnecka (Lublin, Poland/Liceum 10 NR W Lublinie), and junior
Sara Niepelova (Piestany, Slovakia/Gymnazium Pierra de Coubertina/ECU) all picked up for victories for FGCU.

Additionally, in just nine seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 42 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 21, 2020-21), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2021) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions.
