VALDOSTA, Ga. – For the second straight day, the FGCU women's golf team shot 302 to stay in third place at the 2021 ASUN Championship Tournament at the Kinderlou Forest Club (Par 72, 6153 yards). Sophomore
Sarah Edwards shot 74 to tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard to remain in the top 10 heading into Tuesday's final round.
Kennesaw State remains in the team lead with a 36-hole score of 572 followed by North Florida at 584. The Eagles are third with a score of 604 sitting five strokes ahead of fourth-place Stetson.
"The story for this tournament for us has been the struggle to get putts to drop," said head coach
Sarah Trew. "We are hitting the ball just fine, but we cannot get the birdies to fall like usual. Tomorrow we are looking to have a few more roll in and to give ourselves a strong finish."
Along with Edwards, junior
Laura Edmonds also shot 74 on Monday to move up to 11
th with a two-day score of 150. Senior
Natalia Nassar is two strokes behind after carding a second-round 77, while redshirt senior
Ailsa Clark shot 77 to remain tied for 18
th. Redshirt sophomore
Haley Yerxa cut two strokes from her Sunday performance with a 78 giving her a 36-hole score of 158.

Edwards got off to a strong start going par on the first five holes. After a bogey on No. 6, she went par on the next two and added a birdie on No. 9 to sit even at the turn. On the back nine, she started with four more pars, but bogeys on two of the final five put her at two over for the day.
Edmonds had a team-best two birdies on the day and had a string of 10 holes at par. With a birdie on No. 16, she got back to even before bogeys on the final two gave her a score of 74 in the round.
Nassar posted 15 holes at par, but double bogeys on No. 3 and No. 6 put her at four over after the front nine. She had eight pars and just one bogey on the back side.
Clark and Yerxa each added a birdie in the round to finish the day five over and six over, respectively.

Since taking over the program in 2011, Sarah Trew has guided the Eagles to 42 top-five finishes, including 30 over the past five seasons. On top of that, she led the program to a pair of second-place finishes in the ASUN Championship in 2016, 2017, and 2019, signifying the best finishes in program history. She was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2015-16 and has guided FGCU to some of its best statistical seasons in program history

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 85 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 13+ seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just nine seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 40 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 21, 2020-21), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2021) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 23 consecutive semesters. The 2019 Fall, 2020 Spring, and 2020 Fall semesters each saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher team GPA. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
