FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team will host Tulane Wednesday morning for its final non-conference match of the season before hitting the road for a pair of ASUN contests.

The Green and Blue
FGCU is coming off a 7-0 win over Stetson last Saturday afternoon to move to 2-1 in ASUN play and second place in the South Division. On the top court for the Eagles, Maja Ornberg (Kil, Sweden/De la Gardiegymnasiet, Lidkoping) has notched four wins while freshman Fanny Norin (Stockholm, Sweden/Thoren Business School) is 3-1 on court No. 3, currently on a three-match win streak. Meanwhile, Ida Ferding (Vastera, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) holds the longest winning streak having won four in a row anywhere from courts four through six.

In doubles competition, Ferding has teamed up with Sofia Perez (Alajuela, Costa Rica/Florida Virtual School) to produce a 4-2 record, going 3-1 on court No. 2. Against Stetson, the duo clinched the match to give FGCU the 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Tulane
The Green Wave fell to USF Sunday afternoon, 6-1, moving to 9-8 overall this spring. Kristen Borland has nine singles victories, five of them coming on court No. 4. She seized The Wave's only point versus USF, a three-setter on court No. 5. In that match, Mackenzie Clark teamed up with M.C. Meredith to capture a 6-3 win on the top doubles court. They are 7-5 overall on the premiere court.

This will be the first meeting between both programs.

Kennesaw State
Sitting a 5-9 overall, the Owls will face FGCU first before squaring off against host North Florida. FGCU faced off against KSU on Mar. 20 and came away with a 4-3 win. Both teams played at the USTA site due to weather in DeLand, Fla., and started off with singles. Tied 3-3, the Eagles clinched the doubles point on court three as Alba Retortillo (Leon, Spain/ La Anunciata) and Lourdes Ramalle (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Portland) claimed a 6-4 win.

FGCU leads the all-time series, 12-2, and has won the last 10 matches.

Stetson
The Hatters will face off against North Florida Thursday morning before heading back to DeLand to host the Eagles. Noa Cohen leads the team in wins with five going 5-3 on court No. 5. In doubles play, Danel Ashirova and Elodie Foster have posted five wins on the top doubles court.

Additionally, in just nine seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 40 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 21, 2020-21), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2021) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 23 consecutive semesters. The 2019 Fall, 2020 Spring, and 2020 Fall semesters each saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher team GPA. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
