MIAMI, Fla. --- The FGCU beach volleyball team (4-0) will carry a 12-match regular season winning streak into this weekend's FIU Classic.

The two-match, one-day event will see the Eagles clash with Palm Beach Atlantic (4-0) at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before facing No. 14 Florida International (6-4) at 2 p.m. The host Panthers have faced a stiff schedule this year with their only losses coming to No. 10 TCU twice (both 3-2), No. 12 Florida Atlantic (3-2) and No. 16 South Carolina (4-1). On top of that, they knocked off No. 14 Stetson on Feb. 28. Meanwhile, PBA has swept Florida Southern and defeated Saint Leo and Webber International in single matches - three in 5-0 fashion.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have won 12 straight dating back to a 5-0 win over Mercer on April 12, 2019. This is the second straight season they've started 4-0. With a pair of wins this weekend, they can match the 2017 team for the best start to a season in the program's history. To do so, the Green and Blue will be looking for the program's second all-time win over a ranked team with the last coming on March 10, 2018 vs No. 15 Florida Atlantic.

Head-to-head, FGCU will be competing against Palm Beach Atlantic for the first time in program history, while they will be looking for their first win over FIU in their sixth try, although their last meeting on March 21, 2018 was the closest of the series (3-2).

Individually, Giovanna Borgiotti and Kayla Whetstone each moved up the career wins chart last week. Borgiotti won her 50th career match in last weekend's finale and is tied with Amanda Carroll for third place, while Whetstone's 47 wins rank fifth.

Most Career Wins In Program History
1. Karissa Rhoades 2016-19 61
2. Katie Puisis 2016-19 57
3. Amanda Carroll 2016-19 50
Giovanna Borgiotti 2017-present 50
5. Kayla Whetstone 2018-present 47

Following this weekend, FGCU will host its home opener on Tuesday at 2 p.m. against Tampa.
