Men’s Soccer Trio Earn All-ASUN First Team Honors

Vasconcelos selected as ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year

FORT MYERS, Fla. - For the third time in his career, FGCU's Gustavo Vasconcelos (Recife, Brazil/Colegio GGE) was selected as the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year to headline the league's individual honors announced Thursday afternoon. Vasconcelos was also selected to the All-ASUN First Team alongside teammates Ethan Dudley (St. John's, Fla./Bartram Trail HS) and O'Vonte Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/Northview Heights).

The third-seeded Eagles (4-7-1, 4-3-0 ASUN) will open up the ASUN Championships tournament tomorrow evening against Bellarmine in a quarterfinal match hosted at Central Arkansas.

Earlier in the day, Dudley was announced as earning a spot on the ASUN All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season.

Since introducing the Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2012, FGCU now has four selections to lead the ASUN among all schools with Vasconcelos having earned the distinction three times. Additionally, this marked the third time he has earned the All-ASUN First Team selection.

"Gustavo is a top player for us and has also evolved as a leader. He started this program as our fourth goalkeeper and has simply worked his way to the top of this team and conference," said head coach Jesse Cormier. "His work ethic and hunger to learn are second to no one. I'm proud of what he has achieved in his time here with us at FGCU."

For his career, Vasconcelos has made 48 appearances with a 1.44 goals-against-average, a .739 save percentage, and nine shutouts. This season, he led all ASUN keepers in saves, while ranking second in GAA and save percentage. He made a season-high 11 saves against FIU and had seven saves in a shutout win over Jacksonville. Nationally, he ranked 13th in saves per game (5.0) and is 52nd in save percentage.

Mullings became the 12th player in ASUN history to be named to the league's first team four times and is just the fourth player from one of the current member institutions.

"O'Vonte has been doubled, tripled, and received a lot of physical punishment throughout this season, but despite all of it, he has scored in key moments or provided opportunities for others," said Cormier. "His versatility and explosive qualities make him a threat at any time for us and to be the second-leading scorer in the program history (through the COVID era) is an amazing accomplishment."

This season, he was one of the top goal scorers in the ASUN ranking sixth overall in goals (6) and led the league with three goals in conference play. His seven points in league games this year also led ASUN players, while his 13 points overall was the sixth most. Mullings scored the game-winning goal against Jacksonville where he had a pair in the match.

Mullings will leave FGCU as one of the top all-time goal scorers in program history with 27 for his career (2nd most). He also currently ranks second all-time at FGCU in points (61) in 56 career matches.

Along with being a four-time ASUN First-Team honoree, he was the 2020 ASUN Player of the Year. Mullings has also been a two-time all-region selection and was the 2018 ASUN Freshman of the Year.

Dudley earned his second straight first-team accolade after also being named the 2020 Defensive Player of the Year. This season, he helped the defense pitch four shutouts including three in league play. A mainstay on the field, he played seven matches with 90-or-more minutes including a season-high 110 against South Florida. He was also selected to the 2020 ASUN All-Tournament Team and a 2018 All-Freshman Team selection.

"Ethan has grown from being an excellent athlete and competitor who played sparingly early in his career, to a dominant footballer, who has taken over key games in the later stages of his career here," said Cormier. "His size, power, and tough mentality have been a staple for this program and we are proud of how he has developed over the past four years."

Overall in his career, Dudley has played in 2608 minutes helping the Eagles post 14 shutouts. For his career, the defender has a pair of goals and an assist to his credit.

Additionally, he has been one of the program's top academic performers as a two-time ASUN All-Academic selection and a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree along with President's List, Dean's List, and ASUN Honor Roll honors.
