FORT MYERS, FL – The FGCU women's tennis team (4-4, 0-1 ASUN) welcomes Furman for a mid-week match taking place at 10 am Wednesday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The Eagles opened up their ASUN slate at home Saturday evening falling to UNF, 4-3. In doubles play, the Ospreys took two of three matches to lead 1-0 going into singles. Playing her second singles match all season,
Bridget Forster (Boca Raton, FL/Florida Virtual School) claimed the first win on court No. 5 (6-2, 6-2) as
Maja Ornberg (Kil, Sweden/De la Gardiegymnasiet, Lidkoping) on court No. 1 (6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5)) and
Sofia Perez (Alajuela, Costa Rica/Florida Virtual School) on court No. 4 (7-5, 7-5) registered FGCU's remaining victories in singles. The loss snapped the Green and Blue's dominant winning streak of 13-straight ASUN regular-season matches.
ITA Top-50 Ranking
In the latest installment of the ITA/Oracle Women's Rankings released one week ago, the Eagles came in at No. 50. It marked the first time in program history the Green and Blue received a spot inside the top-50. A total of four teams in the Sunshine State were listed in the poll as No. 15 FSU, No. 19 Miami and No. 43 Florida were among those recognized.
Scouting the Paladins
Furman is 11-1 overall, 1-0 in the Southern Conference and is riding an eight-match win streak. In doubles play, Julia Adams and Katarina Kozarov sport a 7-1 record at court No. 1 while Madison Dillon has teamed with Katty Weymouth for a 6-1 mark. Kozarov is ranked 53rd nationally in singles competition, holds a 9-1 record on the top court. Dillon is 11-1 going 6-0 on court No. 4 and 5-1 on court No. 5 as Adams is 9-4 playing mostly out of the second slot where she is 4-0.
This will be the first meeting since 2010 when Furman came into Southwest Florida and took the match 5-2.

HEAD COACH COURTNEY VERNON
FGCU's women's tennis team is led by three-time ASUN Coach of the Year Courtney Vernon, who led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN regular-season crowns in her fifth season in 2018. She has mentored her student-athletes into earning 56 ASUN All-Conference and All-Academic honors, including 2014, 2016 and 2017 ASUN Freshman of the Year as well as the 2016 and 2017 Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the 2018 Player of the Year. Vernon has led the Green and Blue to a 65-46 overall record (.592) and 27-6 conference record (.827) in her six years at FGCU.
