@FGCU_MTen welcomes Georgia State

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team (5-7, 1-0 ASUN) will host Georgia State for a midweek match at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 at the FGCU Tennis Complex. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

"Georgia State is a quality program every year, so we are excited to host them," head coach CJ Weber said. "They've been in and out of the top 50 this year, so it's going to be another tough matchup for us. These are the types of battles we are looking for in order to learn about ourselves and continue to grow as a team while getting ready for the conference season."

Last Time Out
•     The Eagles clinched an exciting 4-3 victory over UNC Wilmington on their home court last Thursday night.
•     FGCU earned the doubles point after Felipe Escobar (Pereira, Colombia/Liceo Frances de Pereira/TCU) and Mateo Ruiz (Bucaramagna, Colombia/Oklahoma State) won their doubles match on court No. 1 and Feliksas Sakalauskas (Palanga, Lithuania/Virginia Tech) and Felipe Ramirez (Armenia, Colombia/Florida Virtual School) earned a win on court No. 3.
•     Javier Fernandez (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) and Juan Montes (Pereira, Colombia) triumphed in singles play at the sixth and first courts, respectively.
•     UNC Wilmington claimed three singles matches of its own to even the score at 3-3, leaving the final result of the match to come down to court No. 4.
•     Marcelo Tebet (Londrina, Brazil/Colégio Anglo Americano), who had won the first set in a 7-6 (15-13) tiebreaker, dropped the middle set before claiming the third 6-4. Tebet's singles triumph boosted the Eagles towards their final 4-3 result.

Scouting the Panthers
•     Georgia State is 7-8 and has yet to play in any Sun Belt conference matchups.
•     The team is currently unranked but was listed as the No. 49 team in the nation by the ITA Team Rankings for the week of Feb. 26.
•     Senior Giles Hussey owns a 5-6 dual record, including a 2-1 mark against nationally ranked opponents. Hussey is 3-5 at the first court and 2-1 at the second.
•     The Panthers have clinched the doubles point in six of their last seven matches, including their matchup against the No. 45 USF Bulls on Monday.
•     Despite clinching the doubles point, Georgia State fell 4-3 at USF after the Bulls rallied in singles play.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber, who has coached 29 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his seventh year, Weber has compiled an 87-75 (.537) overall record and a 32-18 (.640) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the ASUN Championship in 2017, advancing to its second NCAA Tournament.
