@FGCU_WTen completes Bedford Cup weekend

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team ended the Bedford Cup Tournament on a strong note as they claimed a victory in each of their matches, including a doubles championship Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

"Overall we had a very good weekend of competition," said head coach Courtney Vernon. "The ladies are fighting so hard for each other and it's neat to see the growth. Today we won all of our six matches and walked away with a doubles title."

Day one saw the Eagles claim six victories in singles as Ida Ferding  (Vasteras, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) claimed a round of 16 and quarterfinal win. Saturday morning in the doubles B bracket, the tandem of Lourdes Ramalle (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Portland) and Alba Retortillo (Leon,Spain/ La Anunciata) notched a 7-5 victory, securing a spot in the finals. In that final Sunday morning, the duo registered a 6-1 victory over USF's Lucia Garrigues-Melendez and Selin Yaylali.

The Eagles played three extra matches in the afternoon, turning them all into victories.
