FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU swimming & diving team will kick off the 2019-20 season this weekend with meets on the road in Jacksonville, Fla. and Statesboro, Ga. both Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5. On Friday, the Eagles will face off against Campbell and host UNF at the Bolles School before taking on Campbell and host Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Recreation Activity Center. Both Friday and Saturday's meets are slated for a Noon start time.
All three of FGCU's weekend opponents are fellow members of the CCSA Conference.
The Eagles
The Green and Blue roster boasts 14 returners, four of which had multiple top-5 finishes at last season's CCSA Championships. Junior
Megan Wakefield was named CCSA Diver of the Year, while now-graduate
Gracie Redding collected CCSA Swimmer of the Year honors.
JuniorÂ
Petra Halmai (Dombovar, Hungary/Lanczos Komel Secondari Grammar School) leads this year's returners after winning two individual titles at the 2019 CCSA Championships. She took home both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. In the 200 Breast, she broke both the FGCU and CCSA Conference records.
Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI) also took home a pair of individual titles as she swept both the 1M and 3M diving events.
Over the summer, junior
Cassidy Fry (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood HS) earned CSCAA Honorable Mention Scholar All-American distinction while the team picked up CSCAA Scholar All-America team honors for the 17th time in program history.
Head coach
Dave Rollins completed this year's roster with the addition of 13 newcomers who will join the program that has won nine of the past 11 CCSA titles.
The Camels
Campbell finished last year's conference championship in fifth place with 970.5 points. The Camels returned 24 members from the 2018-19 squad and brought in nine freshmen.
The team was then represented by 11 swimmers in the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. Seniors Maddie Baiotto, Megan Everritt and Sarah Wilson each posted top-20 finishes.
Last season, the Eagles earned a decisive 159-98 victory over the Camels at the Bolles School. FGCU finished first in every event, with the exception of the 50 Free and the 200 IM. Â
The Ospreys
North Florida's 722 points at last season's CCSA Championships handed the team a seventh-place finish. Seven freshmen will join the 18 returners this year. All but two of the newcomers are from the state of Florida.
Five Ospreys, all of whom returned to this year's squad, competed at the NIC last season. Senior Jacqueline Barklund posted the team's strongest performance, missing the final for the 100 Back by just 0.13 seconds.
During the last regular season meeting, FGCU downed North Florida by a score of 179-81.
The Georgia Southern Eagles
Georgia Southern swept the first week of the CCSA awards, as sophomore Melissa Cox and freshman Abby Camarda took home the swimmer and diver of the week titles, respectively. Cox swam in three races in the team's season-opener and earned points in each event. Camarda finished second in both the 1M and 3M diving events in her collegiate debut.
Last year, the Georgia Eagles finished fourth at the CCSA Championships, finishing the meet with 990 points. Junior Anna Moers led the team with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, marking Georgia Southern's highest individual finish.
Moers went on to represent the team at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, where she advanced to the 50 Back final and earned 13 points.
The teams have not met in a regular season duel since the 2012-13 season. At that meet, FGCU defeated Georgia Southern 243-56.

Rollins guided FGCU to back-to-back CCSA titles (2017, 2018), as well as the program's fourth-straight title in 2018, marking the ninth championship in 10 years. In addition, he has been awarded CCSA Coach of the Year in two of his seasons at the helm. Previously, Rollins was the associate head men's swimming coach at The Ohio State University. Rollins brings over a decade of coaching experience to The Nest, which includes helping to develop Olympians, NCAA Champions and All-Americans, along with multiple conference champions.
