JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the third-straight year, the No. 1 seeded FGCU women's tennis team will battle it out versus No. 4 Stetson in the semifinals of the ASUN Championship for a chance to play in the finals Sunday afternoon.

The match is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of North Florida.

MATCH HISTORY
Despite trailing the all-time series by one match (8-7) versus the Hatters, the Eagles have come out on top the last seven of eight matches, including this past Saturday's 7-0 win over the Hatters in which the Eagles claimed the outright ASUN crown. The Eagles have ended Stetson's run in the ASUN semifinals the past three seasons.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
The 4th-seeded Hatters defeated the 5th-seeded Kennesaw State Owls 4-0 to reach the semifinals. In dual competition, Brooke Milner leads the squad with a 12 -4 record while All First-Team member Arijana Korac has picked up eight wins on court #1.

ASUN SUCCESS
After claiming their second regular-season crown in program history this past weekend, the Eagles continue to march ahead under the guidance of head coach Courtney Vernon in her fifth season at the helm. A three-time ASUN Coach of the Year, the Green and Blue have posted a 27-5 record over conference foes under Vernon and have advanced to three-straight ASUN Championship Finals.

After being named the ASUN Freshman of the Year in 2017 –  becoming the third Eagle in the last four years and second straight to earn the recognition –  Maja Ornberg (Kil, Sweden/De la Gardiegymnasiet, Lidkoping) became the first Eagle in program history to earn the ASUN Player of the Year at last night's Championship Banquet. Ornberg is 14-3 overall this year in dual action, going 11-1 in the #1 position. She joins Sofia Perez (Alajuela, Costa Rica/Florida Virtual School) and Bridget Forster (Boca Raton, Fla./Florida Virtual School) as the trio finished the regular season 6-0 in conference play.

In doubles play, Madison Gallegos (Denver, Colo./Colorado Connections Academy) and Patricia Villar (Logrono, Spain/Bachillerato Santa Maria/Louisiana Monroe) are 5-0 in ASUN competition, while Perez and Forster are 2-0. In last night's banquet, the tandem of Gallegos and Villar earned a spot on the ASUN All-Second team #3 doubles.

LAST TIME OUT
As mentioned above, FGCU defeated Stetson at home in the final match of the regular season 7-0 to clinch the outright ASUN title for the second-straight season. The Eagles dominated in all facets beginning with taking two of three in doubles and swept across the board in singles winning each match in straight sets.
