No. 1 and No. 3 Pairs Lead @FGCU_BeachVB To Split On Penultimate Day Of Regular Season

ESTERO, Fla. - Two duos produced a pair of victories to reach double digit wins on the season as the FGCU beach volleyball team (11-9, 5-3 ASUN) split two matches against Jacksonville (5-0) and North Florida (2-3) at Estero Community Park on Friday.

"We executed well in the opener, and I was really pleased with Kellie's performance coming into the No. 5 pair for the first time this season," FGCU head coach Matt Botsford said. "I thought UNF pressured us from the service line throughout. Our setting didn't allow us to be as aggressive as we would have liked, and we will have to make an adjustment heading into Saturday. Gio and Ashley along with Amanda and Mac were great all day, but we will need to be more consistent across all five pairs tomorrow."

The Eagles will conclude the regular season on Saturday against North Florida at 10 a.m. and Jacksonville at 2 p.m. Prior to the second match, at approximately 1:45 p.m., the program will host its senior day ceremony honoring Mackenzie Allen and Ashley Glickert.

Here's the full schedule for Saturday:

10 a.m. - FGCU vs North Florida
12 p.m. - Stetson vs North Florida
2 p.m. - FGCU vs Jacksonville
4 p.m. - Stetson vs Jacksonville

The No. 1 duo of Allen (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) and Amanda Carroll joined Glickert (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central HS) and Giovanna Borgiotti in producing two wins each. Allen and Carroll (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS) captured the clinching win in a sweep of Jacksonville with a 24-22, 21-14 outcome. They closed the day with a 21-18, 21-14 win over North Florida.

Glickert and Borgiotti (Vienna, Va./George C. Marshall HS) also won a pair behind a 21-14, 21-14 win at No. 3 against Jacksonville and a 21-16, 21-14 sweep of North Florida.

Another key storyline was Kellie Pernula (Plant City, Fla./Plant City HS), who made her season debut in a non-exhibition match with Kaitlan Krivdo (Hope Mills, N.C./Grays Creek HS). The duo finished 1-1 on Friday, including an 18-21, 21-7, 15-6 win over Jacksonville.

The No. 4 pair of Kayla Whetstone and Snowy Burnam got things started against Jacksonville with a 21-14, 21-7 win. It was their 12th win over the season. Katherine Puisis (Mason, Ohio/William Mason HS) and Karissa Rhoades (Valrico, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior HS) added to their team-high win total with No. 14 in a 21-12, 21-5 win over Jacksonville.
