After going 1-3 in her initial four collegiate matches with Ashley Glickert at the No. 3 pair, Carroll shifted to the No. 2 pair with Allen and began a 59-match streak together that lasted through 2018 when Allen graduated. In 2016, Carroll won five straight from March 31 to April 10 and recorded wins in seven of eight matches during one stretch. She closed the season with a 8-7 record while winning twice in the ASUN tournament.
In February 2016, Carroll was invited to the USA Volleyball open tryout in Colorado Springs. More than 300 vied for spots and she was one of the 36 survivors, joined by just six other freshmen on the U.S. Collegiate National Team in Indianapolis. In June, she attended a five-day camp at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, before the camp moved to downtown Indianapolis for five more days.
