@FGCU_MTen Suffers 5-2 Loss to Grand Canyon

Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – It was another strong showing in doubles for the FGCU men's tennis team Friday night, only for the Eagles to fall 5-2 to Grand Canyon. For the second-straight match, the Green and Blue (4-8) led after doubles only for Grand Canyon (11-4) to come back in singles.

"Grand Canyon played a great match today," said head coach CJ Weber. "We need to move on and do better tomorrow against Illinois State. Each match is an opportunity to learn and grow and as long as we don't forget that, we'll do better in the future."

FGCU split the first two doubles matches, leaving the doubles point to be decided on Court 1. The pairing of Marcelo Tebet (Londrina, Brazil/Colégio Anglo Americano) and Oliver Landert (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual School/Florida) had led throughout the majority of the match and led 5-4 late. The duo then completed the task started by Ezequiel Cerrini (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla/Homeschool) and Mateo Ruiz (Bucaramanga, Colombia/Oklahoma State), securing the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Mathieu Rajaonah and Lorenzo Fucile.

Earlier, Cerrini and Ruiz came away with a 6-1 win against Valentin Lang and Justin Cvitanovic moments before Felipe Ramirez (Armenia, Colombia/Florida Virtual School) and Austin Bates (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS) fell to Freddie Grant and Lucas Grego 6-2.

The Eagles would have to wait for Javier Fernandez (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) to claim their next win. The junior came from behind in his first set to win 6-4 before claiming his second set 6-3 against Grant.

The Green and Blue suffered defeats on all other courts, beginning with a 6-0, 6-2 loss from Ramirez to Rajaonah. Later, Landert was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Fucile.
Tebet and Cerrini lost in their matches. Tebet fell 6-3, 6-2 to Grego while Cerrini dropped a 6-1, 6-2 contest to Lang.

In the final match, Ruiz lost 6-4, 7-6 Cvitanovic.
