FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU volleyball team (20-6, 11-1 ASUN) will look to get an edge in the ASUN regular season championship race when it travels to face Kennesaw State and Lipscomb this weekend.

The Green and Blue, fresh off clinching the program's fourth straight season with 20 or more wins overall and fifth straight with 10 or more in conference play, also secured the program's third-ever 11-1 start to an ASUN season with last Sunday's win over NJIT.  They have also won nine straight overall, including 19 consecutive sets.

Longest Winning Streaks In Division-I Era
2016 - 15 straight
2012 - 15 straight
2007 - 14 straight
2008 - 12 straight
2018 - 9 straight

This is the seventh-straight season the program has recorded at least one seven-match streak and the current streak is the fifth-longest in the Division-I era.

Last year's team also won 22 consecutive sets, which is the second-longest streak in the program's Division-I era behind the 2007 team's 30-set streak.

ASUN CHASE
With four matches remaining for each, there are four teams currently still alive in the conference championship race – Kennesaw State (11-1), FGCU (11-1), Lipscomb (10-2) and Liberty (9-3). With two wins this weekend and at least one loss by Liberty against either Kennesaw State or Lipscomb, FGCU would move into sole possession of first place and clinch at least a top two seed and a quarterfinal round bye in the ASUN tournament.

T-1. Kennesaw State – 20-5, 11-1
T-1. FGCU – 20-6, 11-1
3. Lipscomb – 15-9, 10-2
4. Liberty – 13-13, 9-3
5. Stetson – 14-10, 6-6

9. North Alabama – 2-19, 0-12

SERIES HISTORY
The Eagles are 13-10 all-time against Kennesaw State, but the Owls have won seven of the past nine. The Green and Blue's last win against them on the road came in 2014. Meanwhile, Lipscomb owns a 16-8 record against the Green and Blue, although FGCU has won the past three and four of the past six in the series.

RPI
FGCU currently ranks 97th in the latest RPI poll. They are 4-3 against RPI top 100 teams including No. 11 UCF (0-2), No. 42 Miami (1-0), No. 74 New Mexico State (1-0), No. 75 Yale (1-0), No. 83 Florida Atlantic (1-0) and No. 91 Kennesaw State (0-1).

VERSATILITY
Maggie Rick (639), Chelsey Lockey (349) and Dana Axner (90) are looking to become just the second trio in program history to record at least 100 assists in one season. They would join the 2012 group of Gigi Meyer (683), Courtney Greenberg (510) and Whitney Masters (121).

In fact, only four times in program history has an FGCU volleyball team had at least two players with at least 100 assists:

2012 – Gigi Meyer (683), Courtney Greenberg (510), Whitney Masters (121)
2011 – Gigi Meyer (1050), Camil Dominguez (202)
2007 – Roberta Santos (606), Chandra Lefever (523)
2005 – Laura Manovill (689), Ciara Sandoval (679)

CHASING HISTORY
Rick (Alpharetta, Ga./Blessed Trinity Catholic HS) currently has 4,324 assists, which is 85 shy of eclipsing Gigi Meyer's career record (4,408, 2011-14). With four regular season matches left, she would need to average 21.25 in each one to become the all-time leader, although the postseason would also count. Lockey (Eaton, Colo./Eaton HS), meanwhile, has a pair of double-doubles this year and has recorded at least 10 assists in six straight matches. Additionally, her season assist total is already ninth-most in the program's history for a career and seventh-most in the Division-I era.

In addition to all that, Rick is on pace to become the program's all-time leader in matches played by the end of the regular season. Her 123 matches played is just three shy of tying the trio of Courtney Stephens (2014-17), Whitney Masters (2011-14) and Gigi Meyer (2011-14).

ON THE RISE
Cortney VanLiew (Seymour, Ind./Columbus East HS) recorded 15 kills in the team's most recent win over NJIT while hitting .556, which was her second-highest percentage of the season behind a .645-performance against North Florida on Sept. 22. She has 46 more kills this year than all of last season, and she's averaged 3.98 kills per set compared to 2.91 as a freshman, while hitting .066 higher.

This year, she has 10 double-doubles (16 in her career) along with 10+ kills in 20 of 26 matches and 10+ digs in 13. The ASUN's current leader in total kills now has 662 in her career, which is eighth-most in the program's Division-I era and 17 shy of moving up another spot.

RECORD-BREAKING CAMPAIGN
Axner (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman HS) has had at least 10 digs in 14 consecutive matches, including 23 of 26 overall this year. She has 438 overall this year, which is the seventh-most in a single season and the 15th most in a career in the program's Division-I era. She is just 29 shy of vaulting up to fourth on the single season list, and she's trying to become only the third player in the Division-I era with 500 or more digs in a season.

BLOCK PARTY
The trio of Daniele SerranoTori Morris and Sharonda Pickering has the FGCU volleyball team as one of the best in the nation offensively and defensively at the net. The Green and Blue are currently the nation's best team in opponent hitting percentage at .123, while they rank 17th on the offensive side at .269, which would be the second-best in the program's Division-I era behind the 2007 team (.292).

Serrano (Sanford, Fla./Seminole HS) currently leads the ASUN in block assists (101), total blocks (116) and blocks per set (1.38), and she is tied for eighth in solo blocks (15). Pickering (Sea Cow's Bay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands/Elmore Stoutt HS) ranks second in block assists (90) and fourth in total blocks (98) and blocks per set (1.19), while Morris (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam HS) is second in blocks per set (1.32).

On top of those numbers, Serrano also ranks 20th in the nation in blocks per set and 23rd in total blocks.

LIPSCOMB NOTES

- Currently tied with FGCU for first in ASUN standings

COACH BOTSFORD
Matt Botsford is in his fifth season as head coach of the FGCU women's volleyball program in 2018 after being hired on Feb. 10, 2014. In his four plus seasons, Botsford-led teams have compiled a 109-44 (.712) record overall, including a 53-15 (.779) record in ASUN play. He has taken the program to heights it has not seen in the Division-I era (2007-present) – registering at least 20 wins overall in three straight seasons and at least 10 wins in conference play four straight seasons. Furthermore, the team's offensive efficiency has drastically improved since Botsford started. In his first two seasons, his squad produced hitting percentages of .212 and .220. The past two, which have seen .267 and .256 percentages, are the third and fourth highest in program history. All four seasons under Botsford have seen a top-3 ASUN regular season finish and at least an ASUN semifinal appearance. His first two campaigns resulted in regular season runner-up finishes, and the past two have seen the Eagles advance to the tournament championship. On Sept. 10, 2016, Botsford led his team to a five-set win over Indiana in Alico Arena, which signified the program's first-ever win over a team from a Power-5 conference.
