FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team has been recognized for its excellence in the classroom, earning the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball programs that maintain a year-long team grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. This year, 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball teams from across the nation received the prestigious recognition, highlighting the sport's continued commitment to academic excellence.
The Eagles earned the honor after posting a 3.46 cumulative team GPA during the 2025-26 academic year. Leading the way was Eliska Vytiskova, who posted a perfect 4.00 GPA across the entire academic year. Abby Toeniskoetter carried a 4.00 in the fall semester, while Anna Marzella matched it with a 4.00 in the spring. In total, seven Eagles finished the year with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
The achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the Eagles both in competition and in the classroom, continuing the program's tradition of academic success while representing Florida Gulf Coast University with excellence.
FGCU will open the 2026 season at home on Aug. 28 at 6Â p.m. against VCU.
