@FGCU_MTen Closes Fall Season With Strong Showing at Clay Court Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The FGCU men's tennis team continued its strong performances at the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Clay Court Classic over the weekend. FGCU finished with four singles victories and an appearance in the doubles semifinals.

"The fall is an opportunity for growth and development," said head coach CJ Weber. "I learned a lot about this team throughout this tough fall season. We will continue to get better and stronger this offseason to prepare for the spring. We will have plenty of opportunities to make a name for ourselves with a challenging schedule and hopefully, we will continue to grow along the journey."

Oliver Landert (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual School/Florida) and Mateo Ruiz (Bucaramanga, Colombia/Oklahoma State) picked up two wins in doubles to advance to the semifinals before falling to Florida. In singles, Landert, Ruiz, Ezequiel Cerrini (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla./Homeschool), and Javier Fernandez (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB) all picked up first round singles wins but suffered defeats in the second round.

The Eagles concluded the fall Sunday afternoon in Lakewood Ranch and turned their attention to the spring season.
