#30 @FGCU_WSwim Opens CCSA Action With A Sweep Of UNF, Campbell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU swimming and diving team commenced CCSA action on Saturday with wins over both North Florida and Campbell by scores of 179-81 and 159-98, respectively.

Of the 14 events, the Eagles finished first in 11 of them. Doris Eichhorn (Berlin,Germany/HTW Berlin), Elizabeth White (Fort Myers, Fla./Riverdale HS) and Gracie Redding (Orlando, Fla./The First Academy) each won two events to pace the Green and Blue. White claimed a pair of 1st-place finishes on her own, while Eichhorn and Redding – the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week last week – posted individual titles along with a top relay showing.

The pair of victories extends FGCU's perfect records against both UNF and Campbell as the Eagles are now an incredible 37-1 all-time in the regular season versus conference foes. FGCU – ranked #30 overall in CollegeSwimming.com's latest poll and #2 in the mid-major rankings – moves to 3-0 on the young season as the Green and Blue defeated Big Ten member Rutgers a couple weeks ago.

"The first competition on the road is always exciting," stated head coach Dave Rollins. "UNF and Campbell are strong conference opponents, and we knew we would get their best efforts. It was a great challenge for us, and also provided us an opportunity to see people race new events. It was nice to see the adjustments in details from our last meet, and we will continue to make more over the coming weeks."

In addition to the trio of multiple-race winners for the Green and Blue, freshman Rebecca Moynihan (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Waiopehu College) got her first event win as an Eagle in the 100 free (51.68). Cassidy Fry (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood HS) put up the fastest 200 free time (1:52.77) in the conference this year, and sophomore Elizabeth Zeiger (Cumberland, R.I./Homeschooled) swam three events in a row, culminating with a victory in the 500 free (5:06.68). Making the performances even more impressive for Zeiger is that she had just only three minutes of rest in-between races.

Sophomore White won both the 100 (1:06.17) and 200 (2:23.20) breaststroke, while freshman Petra Halmai remained undefeated in her collegiate career by touching 1st in the 100 butterfly (2:04.46). For Halmai (Dombovar, Hungary/Lanczos Kornel Secondary Grammar School), it was her fourth individual event of the season, and she now leads the Eagles with those four wins.

The Eagles opened action by claiming the 200 medley relay in 1:45.66 as Eichhorn, Sommer Harris (Richmond, VA./St. Catherine's School), Redding and Hannah Burdge (Stuart, Fla./Martin County HS) teamed up to begin FGCU's second-straight meet with a relay triumph.

Linda Shaw (Leeds, United Kingdom/Roundhay HS) followed up the Eagle relay win in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:36.02, finishing just ahead of Antonia Baerens (Ottobrunn, Germany/Max-Josef-Stift Gymnasium).

The next four events were all won by the Green and Blue, and after finishing 2nd in the 50 free, Moynihan got FGCU back on a four-event win streak by claiming the aforementioned 100 free. Hannah Wittman (Jupiter, Fla./Pittsburgh/ Central Bucks East HS) followed that up with a win in the 200 backstroke (2:09.14) for her first victory of the season.

Concluding the day, Campbell took the 400 free relay, but senior Madeleine Clarke (Treasure Island, Fla./Northside HS) ran down – and almost out-touched – the Camels' top team, swimming a full second faster than her individual race.

Up next for the Eagles, FGCU will head to Gainesville to face off with the Gators on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m.

IRMA RELIEF DONATIONS
In the wake of Hurricane Irma, many individuals and families throughout Southwest Florida are still in desperate need of assistance. To aid in those relief efforts, FGCU Athletics will be collecting donations at all Eagle home games for the immediate future. Donation items most needed include: non-perishable food, clothing, household items and first-aid supplies. Additionally, those unable to attend upcoming home games can drop off donations in canisters located in the Alico Arena lobby. All donations will be given to those hardest hit in Lee and Collier counties.
