FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Athletics Department has named men's soccer player
Miguel Jaime and women's soccer player
Tabby Tindell as recipients of the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athlete of the Month award for September.
Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communication Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.
Jaime (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek HS), a junior midfielder on the nation's highest scoring offense with the longest active winning streak in the NCAA, has played in all 12 of the Green and Blue's games while earning starts in each of the last nine contests – all FGCU wins. With one goal and a career-high three assists, he is one of seven players to register five or more points for the Eagles this season. After recording an assist in back-to-back games – including a career-high two assists at Rutgers Sept. 27 – Jaime netted the equalizer at FIU and recorded points in three straight games from Sept. 24 to Oct. 4.
A 2014 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection and 2015 ASUN Second Team honoree, Jaime has been a key contributor on back-to-back ASUN Championship teams during a stretch of six straight titles for the Eagles. His first career goal came during a 2-1 win at Brown a season ago, and he followed it up two games later with the game-winning strike in FGCU's 2-0 conference win at Stetson.
Pursuing a degree in forensic studies with a minor in anthropology, Jaime has a 3.33 GPA during his three-plus years at FGCU. A member of the 2015 ASUN All-Academic Team, the junior midfielder was also named to the Dean's List for possessing a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the spring of 2015. Additionally, he has been named to the FGCU Athletic Director's Honor Roll on three occasions – fall 2014, spring 2015 and spring 2016.
Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS), a senior forward and four-year member of the Green and Blue, has not only etched her name in FGCU history but also ASUN history. After entering the year with program records in goals scored and points, her 12 goals and seven assists in 2016 have also given Tindell the ASUN's all-time mark in the categories. Additionally, she most recently became FGCU's record-holder for assists. For her career, Tindell has produced 64 goals and assisted on 29 more for 157 points. Perhaps more impressive is the timing of her goals as 29 have been game-winners, the most in ASUN history and the nation's active leader in the category.
On the field, Tindell has helped FGCU to an impressive four-year mark of 53-17-7, an unblemished 23-0-4 record in ASUN play and a trio of the Eagles' six straight ASUN Championships. The two-time reigning ASUN Player of the Year, Tindell has also been named to the ASUN First Team in each of her three full seasons at FGCU and was tabbed the ASUN Tournament MVP in 2015. Additionally, she was named a 2014 Second Team All-American by College Soccer News and has taken home NSCAA Southeast Region Second Team honors in each of the last two seasons.
A health science major, Tindell entered her final year at FGCU with a 3.32 GPA. She has earned Dean's List recognition three times, was named to the FGCU Athletic Director's Honor Roll on five occasions and was invited to the 2015 Academic Honors Luncheon. Additionally, The Ocala native was named to the ASUN All-Academic Team each of the last two seasons and, earlier this week, was one of 30 female soccer players across the country to be selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
