FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a pair of wins against in-state rivals Miami and FAU last weekend, the Eagles are set to host another in-state foe as FIU comes to Fort Myers for a dual meet on Saturday at 11 a.m at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Prior to the meet, the Green and Blue will honor the 2016 graduating class, which includes
Lani Cabrera, Rebecca DeRogatis, Sara Hamilton, Samantha Rahael, Hannah Soutar and
Ellen Vann. "We've got some great kids and great senior leaders on this team," said FGCU head coach
Neal Studd. "Hopefully they'll swim fast and enjoy their last home meet. It's a fun, fun day. A lot goes into it, and I don't think anyone does senior day like us."
The FGCU senior class is responsible for 30 dual-meet wins and have claimed a pair of CCSA Conference Championships in 2013 and 2015. Additionally, a season ago,
Hamilton (Stonehaven, Scotland/Mackie Academy) and
DeRogatis (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Indian River) participated in the 2015 NCAA Championships, where the Green and Blue finished in a mid-major and program-best 26th place.
FGCU is now 11-1 in dual meets this season and finished in the top-four at three invitational meets including the All Florida Invite, FGCU Classic and Georgia Tech Invite. Four of the Green and Blue's dual-meet wins have come against nationally-ranked opponents in No. 37 Notre Dame (158-104), then-No. 35 Boise State (159-140), then-No. 44 Utah (165-135) and then-No. 31 FSU (220.5-132.5). After placing third at the Georgia Tech Invite and clocking five school-record times from Nov. 19-21, the team achieved its highest ranking in program history as
CollegeSwimming.com tabbed the Eagles No. 19 in the country.
