FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU baseball team (24-20-1, 7-5 A-Sun) stranded a season-high 19 runners on Friday night and all Lipscomb (28-15, 7-6 A-Sun) needed was a five-run third inning to put away the victory and take the first game of the series, 5-1. FGCU pitching would be perfect over the final six frames but the offense was unable to match the Bisons who defeated the Green and Blue for the fifth time in last seven meetings.

Jordan Desguin (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) worked through 7.0 innings and struck out four while giving up just five hits with all five runs coming in the third. The junior would allow the Bisons to work the bases loaded and score a run before a grand slam accounted for the evening's total. Josh Dye (Deland, Fla./Deland HS) took over in the eighth and worked a perfect pair of innings to close this one out, lowering his ERA for the season to 2.83.

The Eagles out-hit Lipscomb 13-5 with five players picking up multiple. Tyler Selesky (Estero, Fla./Estero HS), the defending A-Sun Player of the Week, stayed hot, going 2-6 while Jake Noll (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS), Colton Bottomley (Parkland, Fla./Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS), Blake Berger (Tallahassee, Fla./Santa Fe College) and Adam Eggnatz (Tampa, Fla./Middle Georgia College) all added two hits. Matt Reardon (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) collected the lone RBI for the Green and Blue with an infield single in the ninth. Noll also walked twice in a 2-3 effort, raising his average to .360 for the season. The sophomore hit .367 during his All-American freshman campaign.

Lipscomb picked up a hit in the first but Desguin stranded the runner with a strikeout to end the inning. FGCU would put two runners on the bottom half but nothing would come across. After Desguin worked a perfect second and two more runners were left by the Eagles, Mike Korte led off the third with a walk. Desguin then gave up three-consecutive singles that resulted in the game's first run. With the bases still loaded, Jonathan Allison sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in right to give Lipscomb a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles would leave the bases loaded in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings while stranding at least one in all nine innings. Bottomley led off the bottom of the ninth with a strikeout and Berger flew out to bring the Eagles' final chance to the plate. Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) battled to a full count before ripping a double to right. He would move up to third on a wild pitch and Eggnatz walked bringing up Reardon who bounced an infield single to third which allowed Anderson to score. No more runs would come across for FGCU however as the next batter would be retired to end the game.

MIKE MURRAY
Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Forrest Hill HS) will take the mound for FGCU on Saturday when the first pitch is thrown at 2 p.m. The junior pitched well in his outing last week, going 6.0 innings opposite UMass and needing just 63 pitches to do so. He would give up four hits and one unearned run while striking out six to raise his season total to 77, which ranks second in the league. He would earn his fourth win of the season, giving him 22 for his career and leaving him three wins short of tying the FGCU all-time record of 25 currently held by FGCU pitching coach Pete Woodworth and 2007 New York Yankees draft pick Jason Kiley.

ATLANTIC SUN CHAMPIONSHIP
The Eagles will once again host the Atlantic Sun Championship Tournament at Swanson Stadium this season. The event is set to take place May 20-23 and the top six teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the championship and compete in a double-elimination style tournament to determine the A-Sun's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles are four-time A-Sun Regular Season Champions with the most recent title coming in 2014.

DAVE TOLLETT
In 12+ seasons of work, FGCU head coach Dave Tollett has compiled a 458-257-3 record as the only head coach in the program's history. He is a four-time Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year and has guided the Green and Blue to four A-Sun Regular Season Championships. His team has been ranked nationally on several occasions by multiple media outlets and has coached 35 All-Conference selections, 22 draft picks, 16 current minor leaguers, four A-Sun Pitchers of the Year, three All-Americans, one National Freshman Player of the Year, one National Player of the Year and one MLB All-Star.
