FORT MYERS, Fla. –
The FGCU baseball team (21-19-1, 7-4 A-Sun) came from behind once again on Friday night then pulled away and buried Massachusetts (11-17, 7-8 A-10) by scoring 11 unanswered runs at one point before closing out an 18-5 victory under the lights of Swanson Stadium. Jordan Desguin dominated on the mound after a shaky first and the FGCU lineup shone as brightly as it has all season. The series will continue with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m. Mike Murray will take the hill in game one for FGCU.

Jordan Desguin (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) made the start for the Green and Blue would pitch brilliantly after a very shaky first inning. The junior would give up three runs on four hits in the first but retired 15 of the next 16 batters conventionally and faced the minimum over that span, striking out six, to come away with his team-leading fifth victory of the season.

The 18 runs and 20 hits by the Eagles are a season-high as are the 16 RBI. Eight FGCU players would register multiple hits on Friday night and six of them would drive in multiple RBI's led by Tyler Selesky (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) who plated four runs on his own. He would also score twice and walk once while going 3-5 at the plate. Jake Noll (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS) would also picked up three hits and drove in two runs while scoring twice. He would also steal two bags to give him an FGCU best 15 for the season. Adam Eggnatz (Tampa, Fla./Middle Georgia College) went 2-4 with three RBI, Colton Bottomley (Parkland, Fla./Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) and Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) each grabbed two hits and pair of RBI while Nick Rivera (Cape Coral, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) went 1-4 with a 2-RBI double. Freshman Matt Reardon (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) would come to the plate six times and reach base each time. He was 2-4 with three runs, two walks and reached on a fielder's choice and an error.

"This is the kind of game we needed to have tonight," head coach Dave Tollett said. "We got down early and came back just like we have all year then left no doubt. Jordan was great after that first inning and each and every hitter in our lineup was dialed in. We can be a very dangerous team when everyone is as dialed in as they were tonight."

UMass led off the game with a trio of hits, culminating with a double down the line in right with runners on first and third to score the first run of the ball game. A groundout would produce the first out of the inning but scored the runner from third to make it 2-0. Picard then flew out to left for the second out, bringing up Morris who ripped a single into center to make it 3-0. Desguin would pick up his first punch out of the evening to escape the frame.

The comeback kids would prove to be up to the task once again in the bottom of the first. Reardon worked a full count before ripping a single back through the middle and circled the bases around to third when Selesky followed with a double down the line in right. With Rivera at the plate, a fastball caromed off the glove of the UMass catcher and rolled towards the FGCU dugout. Reardon scampered home to score the first run of the inning for FGCU. Rivera would lift a soft fly out to center for the first out, not deep enough to score Selesky from third. Noll then came to the plate and smoked a line drive past the pitcher and into center to drive in the second run of the FGCU half. A pair of walks loaded the bases for Brady Anderson but the tying run came in to score when the pitched balked during his delivery, allowing all the runners to advance including the tying run.

After a pair of perfect innings on the hill from Desguin, Spivey led off the third with an infield single and stole second to put a runner in scoring position for Bottomley who had been struggling at the plate. The junior worked a full count and fouled off back-to-back pitches before sending a soaring double into the gap in left center, driving in Spivey to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead. Berger followed with a bloop single to shallow center and Anderson legged out a bunt single, scoring Bottomley from third to make it 5-3. Eggnatz laid down a bunt looking to sacrifice the runners into scoring position but the UMass first baseman would pull his foot off the bag, loading the bases. Reardon ripped a hard ground ball towards first but the first baseman made a diving stop and threw home to get the runner for the first out. Selesky then walked with the bases still loaded and Rivera lifted a deep fly ball to center, driving in two more runs and making it 7-3 FGCU through three innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, and Noll on third after stealing two bags following a single, Bottomley took a pitch in the shoulder bringing up Berger who hit a hard ground ball toward third. The ball would take a bad hop and bounce off the infielder's chest and skip towards short allowing Berger to reach safely while driving in Noll. Anderson sent the next pitch down the line in left for a double to drive in a run and Eggnatz sent the very next pitch to left as well to make it 10-3. Eggnatz would move up to second on a wild pitch and Reardon walked to load the bases for Selesky who singled up the middle to drive in two more runs for the Green and Blue. Rivera and Noll put together back-to-back singles to drive in two more and push the lead to 14-3. Six of the Eagles' seven hits in the inning and all seven runs would come with two outs.

The Green and Blue would tack on three more runs in the seventh and a final run in the eighth while giving up just two down the stretch to secure the victory. The trio of Christian Townsend (Safety Harbor, Fla./Countryside HS), Andris Gonzalez (Miami, Fla./Indian River State College) and Parker Hamilton (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter HS) came out of the bullpen to close this one out after Desguin finished six frames.
