@FGCU_WTEN Remains Perfect in A-Sun Play with 7-0 Victory over NKU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU women's tennis team (6-9, 4-0 Atlantic Sun) continued its dominating play in conference with a clean 7-0 victory over Northern Kentucky (5-10, 0-3 Atlantic Sun) on Saturday night at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

"The girls played with focus and intent this evening," said head coach Courtney Vernon. "We look forward to playing again tomorrow morning!"

The duo of Elizabeth Means and Sarah Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS) defeated the Norse pair of Hailey Shanahan and Danielle Donahue by an 8-1 count in the No. 1 doubles slot while Johanna Sterkel (Schwetzingen, Germany/Carl-Theodor-Schule HS) and Alex Landert (Naples, Fla./Seton Hall) picked up the second match win in doubles play over Rheanna Morehart and Sierra Nellessen to give the Eagles the first point by an 8-1 score in the No. 3 doubles slot.

In the No. 1 singles slot, Sarah Means made quick work of Shanahan with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Breana Stampfli (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent) continued the Eagles strong play when she defeated Sydney Power by a 6-2, 6-3 count in the No. 2 slot.

Sterkel continued her stellar play in the spring with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Donahue in the No. 3 singles slot. With the win, the junior improves her record to 11-3 during the dual season. Sterkel has been a strong force in the middle of the Eagles' lineup as the Schwetzingen, Germany native has wins over opponents from UCF, No. 61 Georgia State, No. 59 USF and No. 9 Miami.

In the No. 4 slot, Candela Munoz Giron (Alicante, Spain/Troy) continued her impressive A-Sun play with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Morehart. Elizabeth Means won a quick first set over Nicole Soutar by a 6-0 score in the No. 5 slot before putting the match a way with a 6-2 victory in the second set.

Rounding out the day for the Eagles was Landert in the No. 6 slot. The junior made quick work of Nellessen with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The Eagles return to the courts on Sunday, Mar. 29 when the host the Roadrunners of UTSA at 10 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
