Brady Anderson to secure its second win in as many days against North Florida (19-11, 0-2 A-Sun) and clinch its first A-Sun series of the season, 7-4. The Eagles will take on the Ospreys tomorrow at 1 p.m. and will be in search of a sweep for the second weekend in a row.
Tyler Selesky (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) led the way at the plate for the Green and Blue, going 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored while leadoff man
Matt Reardon (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) went 2-4 and cracked the first home run of his career, driving in two. At the bottom of the order
Adam Eggnatz (Tampa, Fla./Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate HS) went 2-3 and drove in a run while scoring twice. Every player in the FGCU lineup would register at least one hit. While
Nick Rivera's (Cape Coral, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) streak of seven games with at least one RBI in each game came to an end, the junior managed to go 1-4 with a walk.
Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) took the hill and tossed 7.1 innings while allowing eight hits and four runs, three earned, with four strikeouts. He would move to 3-0 on the season after tossing a complete-game victory last week opposite Bethune-Cookman.
Devin Smeltzer (Voorhees, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) took over and tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless relief and
Garrett Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) came on in the ninth and worked a perfect inning to earn his third save of the season.
"I'm happy with the way we battled today," head coach
Dave Tollett said. "We came out of the gate firing and came from behind for a second day in a row. Our young guys continue to hit the ball well and our pitching is really coming around. Now we need to focus on picking up the sweep because they are few and far between in this league. We need to make the most of this opportunity."
North Florida would jump ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first but in the top of the second
Zachary Orchard (Cambridge, Ontario, Jacob Hespeler SS) legged out a bunt single with one out and stole the first bag of his career to put a runner in scoring position for Eggnatz who walked.
Kyle Gilbert (Lake Mary, Fla./Seminole HS) then came to the plate and doubled down the right field line, bringing in Orchard to tie the game. After Reardon took a pitch off the shoulder, Selesky came to the plate and singled through the left side, bringing two more runs around to score to make it 3-1 FGCU.
UNF would make it 3-2 in the third but the score would hold until the top of the sixth when
Zach Spivey (Ormond Beach, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) led off for the Eagles with a single through the left side. With one out, Eggnatz tripled to deep right center which allowed Spivey to circle the bases and score the fourth FGCU run of the afternoon.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Ospreys rallied and scored two runs to tie the game at 4-4 but Anderson would work out of the jam to limit the damage and turn things back over to the Eagle lineup. Selesky singled to lead off the seventh and
Jake Noll (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS) would follow with a single of his own off of a new UNF pitcher. Rivera then singled to load the bases for
Colton Bottomley (Parkland, Fla./Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS) who kept the rally of singles going with a  solo poke to right, driving in Selesky to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Eggnatz led off with an infield single and stole second to put a runner in scoring position for Gilbert who struck out. Reardon then came to the plate and stroked the first home run of his career to deep right to make it 7-4 FGCU. Anderson would record the first out of the eighth before handing the ball to Smeltzer who worked out of the rest of the eighth.
Garrett Anderson then came on in the ninth and gave up two hits but kept the Ospreys off the board to secure the victory for the Green and Blue.
