FULL RESULTS
MIAMI, Fla. – The FGCU women's swimming and diving team (9-1, 3-0 CCSA) saw its win-streak come to a close on Saturday afternoon when it was beaten by the Panthers of Florida International University by a final score of 167-133 despite three victories from
Emma Svensson.
FGCU began the meet on the right foot, picking up a victory in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of
Kira Toussaint (Amstelveen, Netherlands/Keizer Karel College), Evita Leter (Paramaribo, Suriname/Doral Academy), Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiuskolan), and
Becky Derogatis (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Indian River/Cardinal Gibbons HS) touched first with a time of 1:43.68 while the FGCU quartet of
Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School), Katie Armitage (Bushey, United Kingdom/Queens School Bushey), Yee Wong (Hong Kong, China/Dlocesan Girls' School) and
Kristin Julien (San Fernand, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Stephen's College) touched third with a time of 1:47.39
In the 1000 yard free, FGCU long distance specialist
Lani Cabrera (Barbados/St. Ursala's Secondary School) was defeated for the first time in several weeks, finishing with a time of 10:20.63 and in second place. She would also place second in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:02.90.
Toussaint put the Eagles back on the winning track in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.28 while her teammate
Sandra Wilk (Lexington, Ky./Paul Laurence Dunbar HS) finished third, touching in at 58.74. Leter kept the winning rolling for the Green and Blue when she touched first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.98 with
Vanessa Rivas (White Rock, British Columbia, Canada/Earl Marriott Secondary School) placing third with a time of 1:08.55.
Svensson would pick up back-to-back victories in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle races. She would race to a blistering time of 23.52 in the 50 and an impressive time of 50.95 in the 100. After a short rest, the senior dove back in and picked up her third individual win of the afternoon in the 100 yard butterfly after posting a time of 55.47.
The Eagles would struggle the rest of the way.
Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola High School) would claim a pair of second-place finishes in the diving pool with scores of 274.28 and 295.65 on the 1 meter and 3 meter boards, respectively.

LAST TIME OUTFGCU dove in and rolled to three victories last Saturday, one of which was a convincing 217-77 result over defending CCSA Conference champion Liberty. Eagles would win 14 of 16 events led by All-Americans Toussaint and Svensson who each took home four victories (two individually, two relays).
CONFERENCE HONOR QUEENSThe Eagles have earned nine CCSA weekly honors this season. FGCU swept the first wave of CCSA weekly honors on Oct. 7 with Svensson named Swimmer of the Week and Collins Diver of the Week following their success at the season-opening All Florida Invite. Svensson continued on to earn another Swimmer of the Week title on Oct. 21 after three first-place touches in FGCU's 175-120 defeat of Incarnate Word. She would pick up a third a few weeks ago.
