@FGCU_WSwim Crosses Alligator Alley To Face FIU

MIAMI, Fla. – The FGCU women's swimming and diving team (9-1, 3-0 CCSA) makes the trip across Alligator Alley in search of their eighth straight win and 10th on the season against Florida International University on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.  This is the first time in the New Year that the Eagles have a meet away from home.

FIU
The Panthers will look to improve on their 5-0 dual-meet record as they host their last home meet of the 2015 season. The FIU swimming and diving team broke three pool records last time out during their FIU Relay event. The Panthers last dual-meet was against the Ospreys of North Florida on Dec. 17 where they won eight events and went on to beat UNF by a tally of 64-38.

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU won 10 of 11 events to cruise past B1G foe Nebraska on Jan. 10 by a final score of 126-77. Katie Armitage (Bushey, United Kingdom/Queens School Bushey), Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) and Lani Cabrera (Barbados/St. Ursala's Secondary School) all picked up multiple individual victories to pace the Eagles who continue to pick up big victories during this 2014-15 campaign.

CONFERENCE HONOR QUEENS
After the win against Nebraska the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association announced Cabrera as the Swimmer of the Week. The junior picked up the first of her two distance wins in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.13. She would also go on to win the 500 yard free with a time of 5:00.19 against the Big Ten opponent.

The Eagles have earned nine CCSA weekly honors this season. FGCU swept the first wave of CCSA weekly honors on Oct. 7 with Svensson named Swimmer of the Week and Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla./Osceola High School) Diver of the Week following their success at the season-opening All Florida Invite. Svensson continued on to earn another Swimmer of the Week title on Oct. 21 after three first-place touches in FGCU's 175-120 defeat of Incarnate Word. She would pick up a third a few weeks ago. Collins, along with Yee Wong (Hong Kong, China/Dlocesan Girls' School) swept the awards after the Eagles' quad meet versus Liberty, Campbell and Central Connecticut State on Jan. 3.

EMMA SVENSSON
After posting two Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association record-breaking performances at the Georgia Tech Invitational where she also earned four NCAA 'B' cuts, set an FGCU program record and finished second or third in six events, senior Emma Svensson was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week for the third time this year.

The honor for Svensson is the 12th of her career and comes after helping lead FGCU to a fourth-place finish at the competitive Georgia Tech Invite as the Eagles finished behind only Florida, Arkansas and Florida State in the 16-team field.
