ATLANTA – The FGCU women's tennis team ended play in the USTA/ITA Southeastern Regional Championship on Sunday at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex in Atlanta. The Eagles totaled three victories over the weekend, coming from the efforts of Sarah Means and Julianna Curtis.
 
In Sunday's B singles quarterfinals Curtis (Tampa, Fla./Allendale Academy) faced Atlantic Sun Rival Evveline Lepinay of Stetson, but her efforts came up short as the Hatter took the contest, 6-3, 6-0. On her way to the quarterfinals Curtis beat Georgia State's Veronika Golanova in the round of 16, 6-4, 6-4, and FAU's Alexa Ricci in the round of 32, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
 
Posting the third win for the Green and Blue was Means (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch HS), topping Marina Cunningham North Florida in the consolation bracket of the main draw 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.
 
Up Next the Eagles will travel to Captiva, Fla. for the South Seas Island Resort Women's Pro Classic, a USTA Pro Circuit event, Oct. 23-26.

FGCU is led by Courtney Vernon, whose inaugural campaign saw the Eagles finish third in the conference standings with a Division-I best 14 wins overall in 2013-14. She has produced five A-Sun All-Conference selections and the 2014 Freshman of the Year.
