MACON, Ga. – Coming off two Atlantic Sun Conference victories last week at home, the FGCU men's tennis team was handed their first conference loss as they fell to Mercer, 4-3, on Friday night in Macon, Ga.

The Eagles move back to .500 at 7-7 on the season and 2-1 in A-Sun conference action. The Bears improve to 3-10 this season and even their A-Sun record to 1-1. 

In doubles, sophomore Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) and junior Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) were defeated by Pagan and Tacuchner, 8-5, in the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 spot, the duo of sophomore Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS-FL) and freshman Dyaln Gunning (Baca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights HS) were beat by the Mohanty brothers, 8-2 with Mercer taking the doubles point.

In singles, the Eagles got victories from its top three competitors. Vives, Tsmas and Bao all won their respective matches but the Green and Blue eventually fell with senior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State), Gunning and junior Lance Lvovsky (Dania, Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) all losing their respective matches.

As a team, the Green and Blue have gone a combined 20-8 over the last seven matches.

FGCU will be back in action Saturday, beginning with a 11 a.m. as they play the Owls of Kennesaw State in their second road matchup this weekend.
