FORT MYERS, Fla. -
Alfie Storer has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.
The fifth-year led Florida Gulf Coast University to a sixth-place team finish at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament in Shizuoka, Japan, posting the low individual finish for the Eagles at 1-over 214 (72-70-72) to tie for 23rd in the men's standings.
Storer opened his first event as an Eagle with a 1-over 72, then turned in the low round of the week with a 1-under 70 in round two. He carded five birdies in each of the first two rounds before closing the tournament with a 1-over 72 in the final round to secure his spot atop the FGCU leaderboard for the week. Across the three rounds, Storer totaled 14 birdies against a field that included Texas Christian, New Mexico, and tournament champion Nihon University.
"We're lucky to have Alfie on the squad this year, and I have a feeling this will be the first of many awards he brings in this season," said Head Coach
Lee McCoy. "In his first event in D1, he's already proven that he belongs here."
FGCU returns to action as the host of the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, set for Oct. 5-6 at West Bay Club.
