FGCU Athletics announces addition of fueling station for student-athletes

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics, in collaboration with Chartwells, Gatorade and the University, have announced the addition of a fueling station for Eagles student-athletes.

Located within the Sublett Family Strength and Conditioning Center, the new fueling station is available to all student-athletes, providing a variety of grab-and-go snacks that fall into the categories of protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats such as bars, protein shakes, water and other healthy snacks, like fresh fruit provided by Farmer Mike's.

"Nutrition plays a critical role in the performance of FGCU athletes, and this partnership will help fuel championship-level teams here," said FGCU Director of Athletics Brian Barrio. "This is another big step forward in providing a first-rate experience to our student-athletes."

The fueling station was soft-launched near the end of the spring 2026 semester and is fully operational entering the fall.

"Elite athletes know that training is only part of the equation," said Dr. James Kindernecht, MD, non-operative sports medicine physician, HSS at NCH Orthopedics. "Post-workout nutrition replenishes what is lost during exercise and provides the macronutrients—carbohydrates, protein, and fats—needed to fuel performance, support muscle growth, and promote recovery. Proper nutrition is also essential during injury recovery, providing the energy and nutrients your body needs to repair tissue, maintain muscle, and return to performance."

Thursday's announcement is the third announcement surrounding student-athlete wellness. On Tuesday, FGCU Athletics announced a partnership with Chartwells to provide supplemental nutritional support for student-athletes. That was followed by a Wednesday announcement regarding the availability of a mental health clinician for student-athletes within the Hartley Academic Resource Center (HARC).
