FORT MYERS, Fla. – Chartwells, the official dining partner of Florida Gulf Coast University, is partnering with FGCU Athletics to provide supplemental nutritional support for Eagles' intercollegiate student-athletes for the upcoming 2026-27 competition calendar.
Beginning immediately, FGCU Division I student-athletes will receive 40 additional meal swipes and $100 Flex per semester to supplement their nutritional needs. Those additional resources can be used at all dining locations across campus. Read more about FGCU's dining program with Chartwells here.
"We are thrilled to launch this athlete meal plan as the foundation of our growing nutrition program," said Tara Scrivano, Resident District Manager of FGCU Dining Services. "By working together, we can provide our student-athletes with the resources they need to fuel their success. This is an important first step, and we are excited to continue expanding and enhancing these opportunities in the years ahead."
Chartwells offers 15 dining options across FGCU's campus, providing multiple options for all students and staff and has partnered with Grubhub, allowing students to order ahead and skip lines. The dining options include the SoVi Dining Hall, which offers an all-you-can-eat experience that is the heart of the FGCU dining experience.
Alongside staples like pizza, burgers, chicken tenders and french fries at SoVi are grilled chicken, a salad bar, global flavors, theme-night dishes and Southern classics such as barbecued and fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, okra and collard greens. Menus rotate on a 16-week cycle, but what actually gets cooked depends on real-time demand and seasonality.
"Continuing to elevate the student-athlete experience here at FGCU is one of our core commitments," said Director of Athletics Brian Barrio. "Being able to do so with collaboration from a campus partner like Chartwells is a credit to the supportive culture here at FGCU as well as to the Athletics staff who worked hard to make this happen. We will continue to explore every way we can provide more for our student-athletes in every area of their experience."
According to the National Institutes of Health, nutrition is a key component for optimizing training, performance, injury prevention, and injury recovery. Athletes, particularly growing athletes of college age, need approximately 1,000 to 2,500 additional calories beyond the average recommended intake for non-athletes of a similar age range.
