FORT MYERS, Fla. – Following a successful seven-year tenure as head men's golf coach at Florida Gulf Coast University, Andrew Danna is leaving Southwest Florida to become the head coach at Houston.
"We are grateful for Andrew and his leadership over the past seven years at FGCU," Interim Director of Athletics Lauren Leister said. "We wish him, Carey, and their family nothing but the best in their next journey."
Danna transformed the men's golf program during his tenure over his seven seasons. It started with an historic turnaround, taking FGCU from a No. 257 ranking nationally to No. 65 by the end of the 2020-21 season, the largest single-season jump in NCAA golf history. He led FGCU to its first Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Championship in 2026, guided 17 All-ASUN golfers, two ASUN Individual Champions and was named the ASUN Coach of the Year on four separate occasions. Danna leaves FGCU having guided the Eagles to three NCAA Tournament appearances in five years and having built the most decorated stretch in the program's Division I history.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Florida Gulf Coast University, the athletic department, my staff, and most importantly, my student-athletes for an incredible journey," Danna said. "FGCU will always hold a special place in my heart. The relationships built, the championships won, and the young men developed here are something I will carry with me forever. This program is in a great place, and I am proud of everything we built together."
Leister announced Tuesday that a national search for the Eagles' next head coach will begin immediately.
