FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU athletics had its department-wide APR score jump nearly 20 points year-over-year as the NCAA released updated APR scores for its membership this week.
The Eagles as a whole scored a 994 in the four-year rolling APR score, a number that ranks second among ASUN schools and second among schools in the state of Florida.
Additionally, FGCU had 11 of its 15 programs post a perfect 1,000 single-year APR score for the 2024-25 academic year cohort, while six programs received perfect 1,000 multi-year scores.
Looking at how FGCU compared to national averages, the Eagles had 11 teams score above the multi-year national average, while 12 teams scored above the single-year national average.
"Our APR performance reflects the focus and determination of our student-athletes, along with the support our athletic department and the entire FGCU community provides to help them succeed," said Lauren Leister, Interim Director of Athletics. "Excelling in the classroom is essential to preparing them for life after sports, and it's obvious our student-athletes are not just excelling on the field or court of competition, but also in the classroom and in the community. That is not just a testament to our coaches, but also to our Student-Athlete Success team led by
Dr. Ashley Kuhn."
FGCU's department-wide single-year average of 994 for the 2024-25 cohort is 18 points better than the previous year's average of 976. In all, 14 of FGCU's 15 intercollegiate athletic teams either maintained their score or improved while seven of those teams either tied for or led the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The APR is a point system based on scholarship student-athletes' eligibility and retention for a pre-determined four-year time period. NCAA sports falling below the established multiyear cutoff (930) may be subject to penalties, including scholarship reductions and postseason bans. The data released this year includes the scholarship student-athletes on rosters from the 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years.
