JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast reliever
Ashton Pocol was named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The award comes after he earned his fifth conference save of the season in the last week of the regular season.
Pocol was magnificent in relief Thursday night at Jacksonville, earning his fifth save of the season while retiring nine consecutive batters. He struck out four in his three innings on the mound, inducing three groundouts. While earning his fifth save of the season - all of which came in conference play - he claimed his 11th career save, ranking him fifth in program history.
The Eagles, including Pocol, open ASUN Tournament play on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. meeting against the winner of Tuesday's Central Arkansas-Stetson game.
