FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball head coach
Raina Harmon announced the signing of Amelia Hobson from North Dakota State University, adding another experienced transfer to round out the Eagles' roster for the 2026-27 season.
"Amelia is a long, versatile player who can operate as both a guard and a forward, giving us valuable lineup flexibility," said Harmon. "She stretches the floor, creates matchup problems for opposing defenses, and strengthens us on the glass. Her ability to guard multiple positions makes her an elite defender."
With the addition of Hobson, the Eagles' 2026-27 roster is now complete. The Eagles will feature transfer portal additions Graca Barbosa, Denika Lightbourne, and Lily Zeinstra alongside Hobson, while freshmen Elle McCulloch and Ari Turla headline the incoming recruiting class. A junior guard/forward from Melbourne, Australia, Hobson is a product of Parkdale Secondary College and has spent two seasons at North Dakota State, where she developed into a reliable contributor off the bench.
In her sophomore season with the Bison (2025-26), Hobson appeared in all 33 games, averaging 14.4 minutes per contest. She shot 33.0 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line, while finishing the year with 60 rebounds, 23 assists, 15 blocks, and 13 steals. She posted a season-high nine points against Saint Mary's (MN) on Dec. 29, a performance that also saw her set season bests in field goals made (3), field goal attempts (6), and rebounds (6). She logged a season-high 29 minutes against North Dakota on Feb. 28, draining a season-best two three-pointers in that contest. She also dished out a season-high three assists at North Dakota on Feb. 15 and recorded a season-high three steals at UNI on Nov. 3, adding two blocks and two free throws made against Columbia on March 22.
As a freshman with the Bison (2024-25), Hobson appeared in 30 of 33 games off the bench, averaging 6.7 minutes per contest. She shot 39.5 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line while grabbing 28 rebounds with seven assists and six blocks. She netted a season-high nine points at St. Thomas on Jan. 4 and tallied eight points with five rebounds in her collegiate debut against Jamestown on Nov. 15.
Before arriving in Fargo, Hobson was a standout at Parkdale Secondary College in Melbourne, Australia, where she surpassed 2,000 career points to finish with 2,221, a testament to her consistency and longevity at the prep level. She ranked as the fourth-highest scorer in the Victorian Championship League during the 2023-24 season with 145 total points and earned selection to the Under-18 Victorian State Team, which recognizes the top 10 players in the state.
Hobson cited the coaching staff, the relationships they built with her throughout the recruiting process, and the development plan they laid out for her future as the driving factors in her decision to choose FGCU.
