Eagles collect ASUN honors, Danna wins second straight Coach of the Year

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's golf team collected several Atlantic Sun Conference awards Tuesday, with head coach Andrew Danna earning ASUN Men's Golf Coach of the Year and golfers Nolan Harper, Sebastian Gamboa, Sacha Ruiz and Brett Moore each earning All-ASUN honors.

The Coach of the Year honor is the second consecutive for Danna and his fourth overall with FGCU men's golf, previously winning the award in 2021, 2022 and 2025. He helped lead the Eagles to their first ASUN Championship last week, showcasing a season that also included team victories at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational and Johnnie-O at Sea Island. FGCU is currently ranked No. 58 nationally according to Clippd for the 2025-26 season, the highest in the conference, posting a team adjusted scoring average of 282.4 across 12 tournaments, also the best in the ASUN. The Eagles recorded six top-3 team finishes, produced three individual champions and four individual top-3 finishes on the season.

"I'm really proud of our team," Danna said. "All of these awards are a testament to our student-athletes' hard work and dedication both on the golf course and in the classroom. We are looking forward to building on our program's success next month in the NCAA Tournament."

Harper, who earned All-ASUN First Team recognition, ranks No. 170 nationally with an adjusted scoring average of 70.2 across 11 tournaments. The highlight of his season came at the Ka'anapali Classic in October, where he placed fourth with a score of 197, 16-under par, on rounds of 70, 63 and 64. His second-round 63 tied the program's all-time single-round record, matching teammate Moore, and his 54-hole total of 197 tied former Eagle and current PGA Tour member Frankie Capan III for the lowest 54-hole score in program history. Harper recorded nine birdies in the second round and seven in the third, finishing with 19 total birdies, tied for fifth most in the field that week. He recorded three top-10 finishes on the season.

Gamboa, also an All-ASUN First Team selection, ranks No. 207 nationally, fourth highest in the conference, with an adjusted scoring average of 70.6 across 12 tournaments. He won two individual titles during the season. At the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in October, he opened with a 7-under 65 and closed with a 6-under 66, each round featuring seven birdies, to capture the title at 202, 14-under par. Gamboa then won the ASUN Championship last week at 204, 12-under par, delivering a dominant wire-to-wire performance at Kinderlou Forest. He opened with back-to-back 67s, each among the lowest rounds in the field, before navigating a resilient final-round 2-under 70 to secure the title. His eagle on the par-5 14th in round two and another on the par-5 11th in the final round gave him two eagles to lead all golfers in the championship, and his 15 birdies across the three rounds were tied for the third most in the field.

Ruiz rounds out the All-ASUN First Team for the Eagles, ranking No. 237 nationally, fifth highest in the conference, with an adjusted scoring average of 70.5 across 12 tournaments. He posted two top-3 finishes, including a victory at the Giles-Spratley Collegiate in early April, where he fired rounds of 69, 66 and 72 to finish tied for first at 207, 9-under par. Ruiz also turned in an All-Tournament Team performance at the ASUN Championship, finishing in sole possession of second place on the individual leaderboard. He was a consistent force throughout, highlighted by a electric second round 5-under 67 that vaulted him up the leaderboard, before closing with a composed 2-under 70 in the final round. He overcame an early double bogey in the finale to birdie four of his final 11 holes and finish the championship with 16 birdies across three rounds, the second most in the entire field.

Moore earned All-ASUN Third Team honors after posting an adjusted scoring average of 72.0 across 12 tournaments. He recorded five top-25 finishes on the season, with his best coming at the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate, where he took eighth with a score of 211, 8-under par.

The Eagles will find out their regional destination for the NCAA Tournament when the NCAA men's golf selection show airs May 6.
