FGCU to celebrate student-athletes at Nesties Awards on Monday

Event highlights the best individual and team accomplishments over the past academic calendar year

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Highlighting the best individual and team accomplishments over the past academic calendar year, the annual Nesties Awards will be held on Monday at Alico Arena. The event is managed and directed by the FGCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. 

he top award presented at The Nesties is the Kavanagh Eagle Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award, named after former FGCU Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh, honors the top all-around FGCU student-athlete, taking athletic performance, academic success and community involvement into account. 

Below is a look at each of the finalists for this year's Kavanagh Eagle Scholar Athlete of the Year: 

Olivia Black – Graduate Student – Softball 

  • 2026 FGCU Hall of Fame inductee 
  • Pursuing a Master of Science in Forensic Studies  
  • 4.0 grade point average as both a graduate and undergraduate  
  • Has logged 143 service-learning hours  
  • FGCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President  
  • Leads the Eagles in hits and stolen bases 
  • No. 2 in batting average, and No. 3 in runs scored on team 
  • CSC Academic All-District choice in 2025 

Nicole De Oliveira – Senior – Beach Volleyball 

  • Scheduled to graduate with a degree in Health Science this spring 
  • 3.70 grade-point average 
  • Has recorded 120 service-learning hours 
  • First-Team All-ASUN for a third straight season 
  • Team representative on Student-Athlete Advisory Committee 
  • Team captain 
  • 18-13 record this season 

Michael Duax – Senior – Men's Basketball 

  • Pursuing a biology degree (pre-med track), with expected graduation this spring 
  • 4.0 grade-point average 
  • Volunteered with International Medical Relief Peru last summer 
  • More than 100 hours of service learning hours 
  • Ranked No. 2 on the team in field goal percentage, No. 3 in rebounding 
  • Earned CSC Academic All-District honors 

Lousiane Gauthier – Senior – Women's Golf 

  • Pursuing a Software Engineering degree, with expected graduation this spring 
  • 3.65 grade-point average 
  • 98 service learning hours 
  • 74.3-stroke scoring average 
  • Three Top 20 finishes this season 
  • ASUN Women's Golfer of Year and Individual Champion in 2025 
  • First FGCU golfer to qualify for NCAA Championship as an individual in 2025 
  • CSC Academic All-District choice in 2025 

Erika Zschuppe – Graduate Student – Women's Soccer 

  • Earned undergraduate degree in Integrated Studies in 2025 
  • Had been pursuing a graduate degree and is now pursuing professional soccer 
  • 3.95 grade-point average 
  • 120 service learning hours 
  • Unanimous 2025 ASUN Player of the Year, Midfielder of the Year and All-ASUN First Team 
  • Led NCAA Division I with 1.24 goals and 2.59 points per game 
  • Scored an FGCU record 21 goals in 2025 
  • Earned CSC First Team Academic All-America honors 

In addition to the Kavanagh Eagle Scholar Athlete of the Year, student-athletes and teams will also be recognized in categories such as Men's and Women's Athletes of the Year, Men's and Women's Newcomers of the Year, Upset of the Year, Comeback of the Year and others.
