Chris Diaz named ASUN Pitcher of the Week

Diaz only ASUN pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game this season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - FGCU's Chris Diaz was recognized for his complete-game shutout at Queens as the Atlantic Sun Conference named him the ASUN Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

This past Saturday, Diaz became the first ASUN pitcher this season to toss a nine-inning complete game shutout with his blanking of the Royals at Queens. Facing 29 batters, nearly one-quarter of them (7) struck out against Diaz, two of whom struck out looking.

He only allowed three hits in the game and none of them for extra bases, did not issue a walk and forced seven groundouts. His performance marks the second complete game shutout of his career and the 22nd complete game shutout in program history.

This is the fourth ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor bestowed upon an Eagle this season. Previously, Evan Dempsey was awarded the honor on Feb. 17, Feb. 23 and March 16. It is also the second time Diaz has earned the ASUN Pitcher of the Week accolade, having received the title in the last week of the 2025 regular season.

Diaz and FGCU host FIU on Tuesday evening at Swanson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
