ATLANTA – FGCU distance runner
Innocent Ntwali posted his third career top-eight finish as FGCU competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational late Friday night in Atlanta.
Ntwali, a junior, ran 14:43.19 to finish sixth in the 5,000-meter run under the lights at Georgia Tech. That's his second top-eight finish of the season, and third of his career, after placing third at the Tampa Spartans Open on Feb. 21 in Tampa, where he ran a season-best time of 14:38.92.
Starting in the seventh position, he dropped to as low as 14
th just 2,600 meters into the race. Around the 3,000-meter mark, Ntwali made his move and began climbing the ranks. He jumped up to ninth place at the 4,600-meter mark and in the final 400 meters, Ntwali ran 1:04.31 to jump three spots as he finished sixth.
Also in the men's race,
Evan Casterline finished 18
th with a time of 15:04.56 and
Jacob Leon ran 15:19.86 to place 29
th.
On the women's side,
Addison Torres registered a 17
th-place finish as she ran the 5K in 18:08.69 and Tess Schultz clocked 18:54.41to finish 36
th.
FGCU's appearance at the Georgia Tech Invitational wraps up the spring season for the Eagles.
