FGCU collects three All-ASUN honors, Jaramillo named Freshman of the Year

This marks the 14th consecutive year FGCU has received an all-conference award

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FGCU's women's tennis team received four postseason awards Monday as the Atlantic Sun Conference announced its 2026 All-Conference teams. This marks the 14th consecutive year an Eagle has received all-conference honors and Sabrina Jaramillo's Freshman of the Year award marks the second straight year an FGCU player has received that award.

Sophomore Nora Svensson was named All-ASUN First Team, sophomore June Bjork received All-ASUN Second Team honors and, in addition to being named Freshman of the Year, Jaramillo was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team. FGCU has had a player receive all-conference honors in every season that Courtney Vernon has been head coach of the Eagles.

Svensson finished the regular season with an 18-7 record in singles play, going 11-6 in dual matches. She went 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents and posted a 2-0 mark in 10-point tiebreakers. Svensson recorded her first win over a ranked opponent on Mar. 19 when she dominated No. 80 Stephanie Yakoff of Harvard in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore also played a critical role in FGCU's win over No. 75 ETSU on Mar. 17, which was the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent. In doubles, she was 16-8 with an 11-7 record in dual match play. Svensson won the Conference Individual Tournament in both singles and doubles in the fall.

Bjork registered a 15-9 record in the regular season, 12-6 in dual match play, and was nationally ranked for nearly a month. The sophomore posted a 4-2 record while ranked and went 1-0 this season against nationally ranked opponents, while going 1-0 in 10-point tiebreakers. Bjork secured the match-clinching point in FGCU's 4-3 win over No. 75 ETSU, the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent. She went 2-2 against opponents from Florida, Florida State and Miami (Fla.), including a 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over No. 118 Visery Gynina from the Gators. In doubles, she posted a 12-9 record with a 7-6 mark in dual match play.

Jaramillo earned Freshman of the Year honors a year after Anjali Kotecha garnered the same honor. Her 19 singles wins this season currently ranks tied for second in program history alongside Elizabeth Means (2012-13) and just below the 22 wins recorded by then-freshman Julia Ascua in 2015-16. Jaramillo posted a regular season record of 19-8 with a 13-7 mark in dual match play, going 2-0 in 10-point tiebreakers and 1-1 against P4 opponents. She won seven straight matches over the course of the month and scored a critical point in the Eagles' 4-3 win over 75th-ranked ETSU. Jaramillo delivered an impressive 6-2, 6-3 win over North Florida's May Fadida and also cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Colorado's Yokiko Ikedo. In doubles, Jaramillo registered a 7-7 record with a 6-5 tally in dual match play.

Svensson, Bjork, Jaramillo and the rest of the Eagles open ASUN Tournament play on Thursday at Noon when they host No. 6 seed Stetson at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
