FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU will travel across Alligator Alley for another mid-week clash with Florida Atlantic as the two teams meet Tuesday in the second of four scheduled games this year.
First pitch in Boca Raton is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will air live on FAUSports.tv.
In the first meeting between the two teams on Mar. 17, FGCU powered its way to a 12-4 win with 17 hits. The Eagles had a 4-0 lead before FAU even had a chance to bat.
FAU (17-18) enters this game on a bit of a skid, having gone 4-10 since that Mar. 17 meeting. However, the Owls are coming off their first American Athletic Conference series win of the year and are looking at creating some momentum before hosting Tulane this weekend.
FGCU (21-13) enters the game coming off a 4-1 win against Jacksonville as
Javier Gorostola hit two home runs in a game for the second time this year. The Eagles remain powerful at the plate, ranking 10
th nationally in hits (393) and 11
th in batting average (.323) this season. The Eagles also have the Atlantic Sun Conference's best ERA
Florida Atlantic brings a defensive-minded team that ranks 75
th nationally in turning double plays (26) and 66
th in the country in hits (344). Brando Leroux ranks 38
th nationally in sacrifice bunts (6) while Marshall Lipsey's 15 stolen bases ranks 87
th nationally.
An FGCU win on Tuesday would bring the all-time series between the ornithologically-represented teams to an even tie at 20-20.
After Tuesday's game, the two squads will meet again twice more this season, on Apr. 28 and May 12 with both of those games taking place in Fort Myers.
