BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast beach volleyball (17-12) came up short, 3-2, to No. 15 FAU (17-11) in the FAU Capri Classic finale.
In between matches, FGCU senior
Kaitlyn Beck was honored as the Eagles' recipient of the Capri Grotowski Leadership award. The award is named after FAU's late head coach, and is awarded to a player on each team at our Capri Classic who exemplifies Capri Grotowski's remarkable characteristics as a teammate, player, and person.
Nicole De Oliveira and
Erin Miller completed a 4-0 weekend, taking their match 21-17, 21-19. The Owls won on courts 3, 4 and 5 to clinch the match before
Alexis Keeter and
Ava Lilliquist completed a 19-21, 21-17, 15-9 comeback to earn a pair win on court 1.
"Even though we are disappointed with the outcomes, playing in an atmosphere like this was exactly what we wanted to experience," head coach Chris Sweat said. "The highs and lows of collegiate beach volleyball were all around and learning and growing each day is our goal."
Next, FGCU will travel to Clearwater for The Gulf Front Invitational, hosted by USF, on April 17-18.
