BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast beach volleyball (17-10) swept Stephen F. Austin (5-16) in FGCU's first-ever matchup against the Lumberjacks on Friday.
"There were definitely some different conditions than the last few weeks, so I was proud of the way we came out and handled the wind," head coach Chris Sweat said. "Jacksonville gets better and better every time we play them, and it was good to see SFA out there again. We're looking forward to two top 20 matchups tomorrow."
Elaina Millaway and
Kristina Gluc kicked off the Eagle's second match on Friday with a 21-10, 21-7 win.
Nicole De Oliveira and
Erin Miller added a 21-10, 21-18 win on court 2, and the Eagles kept cruising.
Ava Lilliquist and
Alexis Keeter won 21-11, 21-9,
Andrea Dietz and
Sydney Majick won 21-11, 21-14 and the pair of
Emma Soncrant and
Vanessa Moriarty closed out the sweep with a 21-14, 21-19 victory.
Next, FGCU will play a pair of ranked opponents on Saturday, beginning with No. 17 North Florida at 10 a.m. before No. 15 FAU at 2 p.m.
