Correa wins 10th but Eagles fall to No. 68 Utah State

FGCU heads to Miami for The X Invitational next

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Stefan Correa strolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in singles, but he would represent FGCU's lone point as the Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 68 Utah State Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

Correa notched his 10th singles victory of the season with the win, but it wasn't enough to extend FGCU's five-match win streak. This contest marked the first meeting between the two teams.

Utah State secured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 doubles. Jean-Baptiste Badon and Dmitri Goubin delivered a 6-1 win over Mika Bunjes and Gustav Hasslegren on court two. The point was clinched when Xavier Calvelo and Jakub Medved bested Pablo Paternostro and Tanner Povey, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles, featuring Eliot Nobel and Roman Venger against Correa and Stavros Hadjivarnava, remained unfinished at 4-4.

In singles play, the Green & Blue captured their lone point at No. 6 singles where Correa defeated Eemil Pasanen, 6-0, 6-2. The Aggies then extended their lead with Badon's 6-3, 6-3 victory over Povey at No. 1 singles. USU continued to build momentum as Venger secured a 6-1, 6-3 win against Hadjivarnava on court three.

Nobel sealed the match for the Aggies with a 6-4, 6-2 result over Bunjes at No. 4 singles. Matches at No. 2 and No. 5 singles were left unfinished, with Calvelo against Paternostro and Medved facing Hasslegren, respectively, both in the third set.

FGCU returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 12 in Miami as the Eagles face Fordham as part of The X Invitational.
