FORT WORTH, Texas. – Florida Gulf Coast beach volleyball (6-5) earned a pair of wins in Texas on Friday, sweeping Houston Christian 5-0 and defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-2. 

In the morning match, FGCU earned a 3-2 win over the Islanders. Emma Soncrant and Kaitlyn Beck defeated Mia Stevens and Saskia Hernandez 21-18, 21-16. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took wins on courts 1 and 4 to take a 2-1 lead. Then, Andrea Dietz and Sydney Majick earned a 21-13, 15-21, 15-7 win on court 3 to level the match at 2-2. Nicole De Oliveira and Erin Miller sealed the win for FGCU in three sets, winning 18-21, 21-17, 16-14 to put the Eagles on top 3-2.

In the second match of the day, FGCU fell 5-0 to No. 7 TCU. The Eagles pushed the Horned Frogs, though, as five of the ten sets were decided by three points or less. Soncrant and Dietz fell narrowly, 21-18, 21-19 at court 3, and Beck and Millaway dropped the match on court 4 21-16, 21-18.

The Eagles raced past the Huskies in a match that was moved to Friday evening from its originally scheduled time of Saturday afternoon due to anticipated inclement weather in the Fort Worth area. Every FGCU pair won in two sets, including a dominant 21-11, 21-8 win from Vanessa Moriarty and Elaina Millaway on court 5. 

The Eagles will round out the TCU Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 with a second match against the Horned Frogs at 9 a.m., pending weather in the area.
