Gauthier Leads Eagles After First Round of Gators Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University women's golf team opened play at the Gators Invitational on Friday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, finishing the first round in ninth place after posting a team score of 14-over.

Lousiane Gauthier led the Eagles with a 1-over 71 to sit tied for 16th, while Sydney Deal followed at 3-over and tied for 29th. Gia Culler-Guerra added a 4-over 74, with Amelie Alcantara and Leonie Wulfers rounding out the lineup at 6-over and 7-over, respectively. As a team, the Eagles totaled 10 birdies and 57 pars through the first 18 holes at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

How It Happened
Lousiane Gauthier led the way for the Eagles with a 1-over 71, placing her tied for 16th after the opening round. The senior carded a steady round that included four birdies, tying for the fifth-most birdies in the field through 18 holes. Gauthier made the turn at 2-over before bouncing back on the back nine with birdies on holes 14 and 18 to finish just one shot above par.

Sydney Deal sits tied for 29th after shooting a 3-over 73 in the opening round. Deal delivered a consistent effort throughout the day, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15. She also recorded 12 pars, tying for the 20th-most pars in the field during round one.

Gia Culler-Guerra followed closely behind in a tie for 36th after posting a 4-over 74. Culler-Guerra tallied three birdies in the round, tying for the 12th-most in the field. Her round featured a strong back nine that included birdies on holes 11 and 15 to keep her within striking distance of the top 25 heading into the next round.

Amelie Alcantara finished the day tied for 55th after shooting a 6-over 76. Alcantara recorded 13 pars during the round, tying for the eighth-most in the tournament field. She settled in after the turn, making several steady pars on the back nine while adding a birdie on hole 12.

Leonie Wulfers rounded out the Eagles' lineup with a 7-over 77 and sits tied for 64th following the opening round. Wulfers matched Deal with 12 pars on the day, tying for the 20th-most pars among all competitors.

As a team, FGCU recorded 10 birdies in the opening round, tying for seventh-most in the field. The Eagles also produced 57 pars, tied for the fourth-most among the competing teams, highlighting a steady overall performance on a challenging course.

The Eagles will return to the Mark Bostick Golf Course on Saturday for the second round of the Gators Invitational.
