Eagles set for trips to Miami, West Georgia

FGCU to take on Hurricanes on Tuesday night

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Two of the hottest offenses in the country will collide Tuesday evening in Coral Gables when FGCU pays a visit to Miami in a non-conference tilt at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. and will air live on ACCNX.

FGCU (19-8) plays a Miami (21-7) team that has won eight of its past 10 games, but prior to that had dropped a series to a Boston College team that lost the three-game series to FGCU in late February.

The host Hurricanes look to dampen an Eagle offense that ranks third in the nation in hits while fielding a squad that ranks eighth nationally in hits of their own. Miami also ranks second in runs scored and third nationally in scoring.

Miami also sports a pitching quad that ranks 16th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings, compared to an Eagle pitching squad that ranks 12th nationally in the same category.

Guiding FGCU is Dave Tollett, now in his 24th season. The only coach in the history of the program, Tollett brings a career record of 793-489-3 (.618) and now ranks 25th among active head coaches in total wins.

J.D. Arteaga is in his third season as head coach of the Hurricanes, and 24th year as a member of the Miami coaching staff. He enters Tuesday's contest with an 83-64 (.565) record since taking the helm of the program.

Javier Gorostola looks to extend his program-record 45-game hitting streak, a mark that matches Arizona State's Roger Schmuck streak in 1971 as the sixth-longest in Division I history. Gorostola could claim that sixth place ranking for himself unmatched with a base hit on Tuesday.

The Eagles then head to Georgia for a three-game set against West Georgia. Set for their final year in the ASUN before the consortium shifts UWG to the United Athletic Conference, FGCU heads to Carrollton, Georgia looking to keep their record unblemished when playing in that town. Florida Gulf Coast, with a 5-3 ASUN mark, sits just 2.5 games behind North Florida in the Graphite Division of the ASUN standings.
