JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast sophomore men's tennis player
Tanner Povey has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference's Player of the Week after recording a trio of wins in as many days.
Povey recorded three straight singles wins in three straight days, all of which came on the road. His streak included an impressive three-set win over a nationally ranked opponent. Povey began the week with a 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4 win over 106th-ranked VVeljko Krstic (Elon), then followed on Saturday with a 7-5, 6-4 win over UNCG's Tymofiy Khrystyuk. Then on Sunday, Povey continued the streak with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win over Queens' Noe Villen to open ASUN play.
This marks Povey's first career conference player of the week award and the second ASUN Player of the Week honor won by an Eagle this season. On Jan. 13,
Pablo Paternostro was named ASUN Player of the Week.
FGCU hosts Mercer on Wednesday in the team's home opener, with first serve set for Noon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
