FGCU begins season series against Owls at FAU on Tuesday

Game is first of three meetings between the two teams this season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU baseball renews a competitive in-state rivalry Tuesday evening when the Eagles will travel across Alligator Alley for a meeting with Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday's contest marks the first of three games in the annual rivalry series. FGCU will return to Boca Raton on Apr. 14 before the Owls visit Fort Myers on Apr. 28.

Florida Atlantic (13-7) boasts a 12-6 mark at home but have faced a challenging early-season schedule. Of the Owls' seven losses, six have been at the hands of P4 conference opponents (Notre Dame twice, Iowa twice, Miami, Florida). FAU has won seven of their past eight with the lone loss being that aberration of a defeat in a 14-3 contest at the hands of UMBC on Saturday.

Florida Gulf Coast (16-4) is coming off a sweep of Queens in the opening weekend of ASUN play and the Eagles have won four straight, after topping FIU in extra innings a week ago in Miami. Eagles' two-way star Evan Dempsey recently earned his third ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor just five weeks into the season while Javier Gorostola and Jon Embury have combined to drive in 61 runs in just 20 games so far this year.

The Eagles trail FAU in the all-time series by a slim margin, 20-18, and has a 7-12 mark when playing in Boca Raton. The Green & Blue head across Alligator Alley on Tuesday looking for their first win at FAU since Mar. 5, 2021.

Tuesday's game is the first of nine straight against opponents from the Sunshine State. Already with a 3-2 mark this year against in-state teams, the Eagles will head to North Florida for a three-game ASUN series in Jacksonville this weekend before returning home to host USF and Stetson.
